Sorry Brotherhood – Monster March is coming

The last monster I painted was -I believe- the griphon shown above. It suffices to say, that I’d rather paint infantry, cavalry or large infantry as I haven’t painted a large model in years. (one exception here, but that one was not for my own armies)

A few days ago Pawel Mieczowski (better known as Swordmaster) has posted the return of “Monster March”. The general idea is to paint up one large model in the month of March. (more info here) . Though I don’t know if I can make the actual deadlines posted on his site, (more on that below) this challenge is something I cannot resist.

While hobby deadlines are kinda fluent for me, what I *can* do, is keep my current project (Sorry, Brotherhood) on a back burner while working on a large monster. It’s a pity to stop working on those multibases, but there’ll be time a plenty after this project.

The project

I own a pathfinder dragon for quite some time now. It was ordered in the same batch as the griphon in the header and my reaper bones dragon whelps, which have been in use for several years.

He’s in a sorry state. After cleaning him, I tried a thinned down ink wash to show the details (it didn’t hold) and I painted the head black to see if the paint would hold. (it did) Other than that, he’s in the same state as when I bought him.

Told you, he’s in a sorry state, didn’t I?

The idea was -and still is- to make it into a vampire on undead dragon. My bits box has a pair of *very old* GW vampires. (one is a blood dragon, who can tell me what the other is?) I’ll need to choose either as the dragon rider.

As the assembly of the model is nearly completed, the first phase is really easy. I just need to green stuff a saddle and saddlestraps. After that, I’m ready for painting.

What could happen to prevent me finishing it?

Normally a month would be easily enough time to paint such a model. I’m not sure if real life will allow me to finish this model within this particular month. Both work and family will be busy, and there’s of course the children who go before my hobby ‘duties’. Still, if the project doesn’t get finished in time, it will probably be finished sometime later.

If my hobby projects pass beyond halfway, they are usually finished sometime later. I’ve discarded projects from time to time, but never after taking them more than halfway. So, there’s still hope for these knights…….
