Remember those knights which need multibasing? They’ve been kept on hold for a bit now, as I am particpating in the MonsterMarch challenge. That said, while painting a single model, there’s always time stuff needs to dry.
So while the dragon is drying out, I spent some time multibasing the knights. It’s a lot harder than I anticipated, but mainly because of the limits I set myself.
The general idea for 2 of the 3 regiments is to create the image of a unit of knights charging down a downward hill. (a bit inspired by the ratkin horde I made some time ago). As easy as this proved for infantry, for cavalry it’s a lot harder.
First tests with knights angled downwards to represent the charging failed due to the fact that the model pose doesn’t match a downward charging horse. (it looked really ridiculous)
So I did a second test a bit inspired by my two-tier spearman horde, so I had a back row of knights elevated higer than a first row. This proved rather good, so that’s the idea I went with.
As I have a main project going with the dragon, I just started with a single regiment. WIP below.

The back troop is elevated 20mm higher than the first, I used framework of miniature frames and plasticard to make a relatively flat area and glued the knights. After that, I created a roughly and uneven floor with wall filler and sand.
As I forsee some problems getting the floor painted, I left the leftmost knight out until it’s finished. That one will need some pinning and superglue, otherwise the model will keep on breaking from the base.
The front troop is just glued to the base. As this needs drying out, I’ll just leave it as it is for now. Tomorrow we continue the dragon.
