Hobby update – rebasing the giant

A few months ago (somewhere after Clash ’19) I painted up a giant. The story’s here: He’s been used only a few times and needs to be rebased after KoW3.

Since KoW3, the Giant is on a 75×75 base. I understand the giant base size for the Mantic giant, but my reaper bones giant looks a bit silly on a 75×75 base:

I am too small for my base. It’s huge… no, Giant!

That said, I want to be able to use my model, so I’m gonna repaint my base to match his current base. As you can see, there’s a layer of cork and some PVA glue with sand. After this, I added some stones and a model tree. The result turned out pretty okay:

Now he’s done, there’s room in my painting station for new projects. This is one of them:

My 2nd human army was rumoured to be finished. In mirror matches, I found that the game lacked some speed, so I wanted some light cavalry to match the yellow-black reconnoiterers.

Recently I cleaned out my closet to get rid of some unwanted models. I found that one of these armies had a number of okay-ish painted light cavalry. With a bit of terracotta and red paint, the blue-white colour scheme was easily transformed in red-white. The models needed some touching-up in other spaces (the faces, primarily) but in an evening I transformed all the horses and three of the riders. Two more to go.

3rd project

There’s a 3rd project on my painting desk. While it’s still in its infancy, the crafty observer sees the start of a horde-level multibase.

I’ll keep you posted!

Until that time, Merry Christmas and Happy Hollidays.

  1. I really detest rebasing and frankly refuse to do it. That said, the base sizes for monsters always seemed too small in KOW2 so in some ways I’m glad they increased many of them.

    1. Rebasing stinks, especially if this requires physically removing the models from the original base. As for this case, this was not so hard. I just glued a larger base under the smaller and filled the gaps.
