Terrain for Dortsche Krijgsheren

& other hobby

On the 29th and 30th of may, we’re hosting a tournament in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. You can read all about it here:

for this tournament, we have been building a huge amount of terrain. (note: most of this is not my work, it’s a communal effort). Here’s a snap shot of our current work in progress:

To see it all, join us at the 29th and 30th of may in Dordrecht!

Personal painting

I’ve also managed to paint a few models myself. Apparently, the last update on my painting journey was over three months ago. In these three months, I’ve managed to finish:

Aragnarok spider:

This aragnarok spider has been on my painting list for too long. It’s been partially finished for quite some time too. Finally, I’ve managed to finish both the spider, the final two crew and the basing.

In game it’s a chariot horde, as this is the only base size it fits on!

Well of souls

Another model I’ve been wanting to paint is a faceless one from a modern horror game, but with another face. I’ve done a head swap with a GW ogre model to finish the model out.

In game he’s either a well of souls or an abyssal archfiend. too bad, my abyssal army is not yet updated.

Abyssals

Spoken about abyssals: Back in 2018 I built an “abyssal” army as a test wheter I could build a new army from scratch. As much as I wanted to try out the playstyle, I just did’t want to paint the red-skinned abyssals “on the box”. I have no love for the “demonic” vibe of Mantic Abyssals (it’s too Dante and frankly, I don’t feel comfortable investing a lot of emotional energy in something labeled “demonic”) so I chose a different flavour.

My army hails from the swamps in the Soutern Hinterlands. After an Abyssal invasion a couple of decades ago, the local wildlife was irrevocably changed. Their hatred for both the abyssals and the rest of the world who had ignored them is roughly equal. The creatures are tribal, very isolationistic and agressive towards everyone else. This is reflected by the abyssal ruleset.

The army back in the day was finished in due time and played once or maybe twice. I hope this 2025 revival will see them on the table slightly more often.

Recently, I finished a horde of swamp berserkers and a berserker alpha. (5 models)

Painting tally:

A reoccuring part of this blog is the where I keep track of my minis waiting for paint, counting my number of newly accrued miniatures compared to those actually finished!

the painted models in this page total to 9 models:

  • 2 goblins and a spider
  • 5 swamp berserkers
  • Well of souls

I got 21 new models (21 berserkers)

Totalling:

  • start +28
  • painted +9
  • new models -21
  • Total: +16

As I’m painting more and more of the abyssals, there’s already a new project on the Horizon: an armada Salamander fleet. But first I want the Abyssal army playable to at least 1995 points!

  1. Lovely terrain pieces and great spider! – especially the base on that bad boy (and I am an infamous non-fan of scenic bases, hah!).

I have one of those big spiders to paint myself ONE DAY too.. I guess probably everyone that collects and paints Goblins does?!

    1. thanks for the compliment! I really like the “swampy” style on my goblins. It’s very distinctive without detracting too much from the actual models.
I stole the idea from Bob the Bobish with his marvelous undead.

The spider is a huge model and a great attraction to any goblin army. Too bad it’s not that effective on the battlefield, though.
