MonsterMarch # 3 building the base

Last week I finished painting all those knights, so this week I started building the actual multibase. The general idea is to build a bridge over a river which the knights are crossing. In that way, I can also justify using them as redemption knights in Order of the Green lady, hence the water theme!

I just started by cutting the base sizes (both the base and the bridge parts) from plasticard. I use it a lot and it works well. Secondly, I needed some elevation, so I could use my square rod that I had left over from another multibase.

And for this project I finally could use the pewter horses that I got from my parrents-in-law for my hobby. The horses mount the bottles of very local frysian whiskey which I drink with my father-in-law from time to time.

As the horse heads are actually a bit too large to be used as actual horses, I use them as bridge statues instead!

Here’s the bridge part (the upper part of the base) before basecoat. Nice blue ain’t ugly, is it?

Cutting the models from the bases

Cutting the models from the bases turned out to be more than a challenge. As I used whatever models I could find, most of the horses were glued to the bases like they would need to hold forever. And they almost did….

In the end, I ended up taking a cutter to the bases and shredded the bases in order to get the actual models and the plastic strips out. It worked. Sorta.

Afterwards, I painted up the horse statues and the bridge itself before glueing the knights on the base. The bridge with the knights starts to look as it should, just don’t mind the white underlayer which still needs gravel and paint:

Covering the base with sand will be the next phase, after which I will paint the water part of the bridge:

But that’s something for next time!

Painting tally

In every hobby blog post, I keep track of my pile of shame counting the number of newly accrued miniatures compared to those actually finished!

I finished two new models: a bird and a ship. I did not buy or acquire new models.
