Jarvis’ army still needs an army list. The reason it’s not been posted is that is was bloody hard to spend the last few points. 1,000 point armies (especially elite armies) are a bitch to compose.
I knew I wanted a horde to act as an anvil and take space. Furthermore, I wanted a unit of soul reaver infantry, mainly because they look badass and they take the 2nd spot of best units in 2020. Furthermore, the goreblight needs to get in.
The total of Jarivs, a legion of zombies, regiment of soul reaver infantry and goreblight is 735 points. To conclude the army, I wanted a unit of chaff (preferaby a troop of revenant cav) and another source of inspiration and maybe surge.
My first option was a lich king plus a troop of revenant cavalry. This makes the total of the army….. 1,005 points. The lich king is a great source of surge + inspire, has great mobility and resilleince. Furthermore he’s level 3 spellcasting which is marvelous for taking plane-specific spells.
Downgrading the legion of zombies to a horde would free up 55 points, leaving 50 points to spend in the case above. Since I could not upgrade the soul reavers due to the 250 point limit, the only option is to load up the lich king with spells. Normally a valid uption, but I wanted to select spells from the various planes instead, so I wanted him without upgrades. An alternative forray combining a horde of zombies and a mounted vampire lord instead of the lich added up to 1,010 points, leaving me slightly frustrated.
In the end, I found the solution in:
a) Switching out the legion of zombies for a horde of skeletons. Not as killy, but more or less as resillent due to 2 points higher nerve. This freed up 30 points.
b) adding the naked lich king and the revenant cavalry adds up to 975
c) the remaining points are invested in a 25-point scrying ball. A nice little magical item for scenario play on a unit that will not carry anything else.
The army list reads as follows:

It’s only got 6 drops and 10 US, but has enough inspiring/surge for a 1,500 point army. Any additional points can be spent on new units and/or upgrades.
Andere here’s a full army pic:
