My 2nd halberdier horde

Introduction:

For those who know me, Kings of War is mainly about my Kingdoms of Men armies. These are former Warhammer Empire armies which have been slowly transformed into Kings of War over the past three years.

The army usually features as Kingdoms of Men; sometimes as League of Rhordia en occasionally as Brotherhood. It’s also been Basileans on one occasion, but I don’t like that army list that much.

All-in, my yellow-black KoM army features at least 6,000 points; over 500 models.  There’s always room for more.

Such was the time when, for my 1,500 point tournament army featuring 4 (!) melee hordes, I needed an additional horde of halberdiers.  This post shows the result of my latest project.

Building it

As I build my armies for flexibility, this horde can be split into 2 regiments and 4 troops while still adhering to PMC (Preferred model count). That said, I really like the aestetic of troops into parade, which I hadn’t done before. To build this, I scrounged my collection for a large number of Warhammer spearmen, the kind that came with the 6th-edition starter box. You might guess that I own too many of these….. Not only that, for this aestetic, only the straight standing spearmen will do. I needed 32 total; which is 4 empire starter boxes worth of spearmen. 🙂 My bits box provided me with the halberd-heads to transform these spearmen in halberdiers.  As I own the same two models each 16 times; I did a few face swaps with other GW models to keep a bit of variety in the unit. Finally,  I really wanted a full command on the unit. A mounted officer (Mercanto), banner and musician to complete the unit. As military doctrine requires; these parade on the far left of the unit.

This is Mercanto; the captain of this company. A a nobleman’s son, he paid to raise the company himself and outfitted them at his personal expense. Surely, he’ll be proud on their (future) successes.

The company as a whole
