Yes, I know, it’s May already, but my Monster March contribution is finally complete! In my defense, I’ve been on holliday to a sunny beach, so the past two weeks to which I didn’t bring my paints, so the model has been *almost* complete for more than a month now.
Without further delay: I present “Gubbah the Goliath”, goblin general supreme!

As mentioned before, the model is a conversion of a friend of mine, and painted by yours truly. Both the mount and the goblin riding it are ancient metal (the model weighs a ton), while the result is a great addition to my goblin forces! more pictures below!

Other projects
Last month, I posted my new pikemen project. Most pikemen have a layer of paint or two (I paint them in batches) and while a few only have their skintone basecoat, I managed to finish two between other projects:

It’s not much, but It’s a good start! 28 to go!
Arquebussiers
The kingdoms of Men army has been upgraded recently by removing the Pot Shot rule from the crossbows. I tested out a horde of the new handgunners a few times and though they are not cost effective, they are a fun unit to use.

From my Warhammer days (before 2015!) I still have quite a few handgunners single-based. These models were painted during Warhammer 5th and 6th edition (most are 6th edition starter set gunners) and have been in storage ever since.
Here’s the storage that has the gunners, crossbows, outriders and militia that haven’t been multibased yet plus some assorted models that don’t fit in my other boxes, such as my ogre ambush force.

As you can immagine, the models have quite some battle damage. Also, I don’t think I used inks back then. The first of these models were painted before 6th edition launched (I remember buying empire state trooper boxes for cheap in the weeks leading up to the launch of 6th. This was is 2009, so most of the crossbows are from before that and the gunners from slightly after this.
Though I remember painting hundreds of these, my actual model count is about 27 painted. (plus one troops that I like the multibase which I keep that way, so honestly about 35 or so.) Before I can use these in todays games, I need to repair the battle damage. And use some shading here and there. So, that’s my current project!

Moreover, 27 is not a horde. 30 may just be enough, but 27 is definitely not. Adding a banner and a musician (also these were painted in the same time….. the quality is horrible) makes 29, so I need one more. Fortunately, contrast paint is a thing these days, so painting one more shouldn’t be too hard!
Finally, I got to build another multibase. Using the same pallisades I used on my goblin spearmen , I built a new multibase.
The watchtower is ramshackle at best, but this represents the quality of battlefield construction, I suppose. The result is fine, and i’m happy with it:

Now it’s just a matter of finishing the sole gunner and repairing the rest!
Painting tally:
A reoccuring part of this blog is the where I keep track of my minis waiting for paint, counting my number of newly accrued miniatures compared to those actually finished!
- start 1
- painted +3
- two pikemen
- Gubbah the Goliath, my Monster March project
- I received a handful of new armada boats, but the models are incomplete. (they lack sails) so until they are complete, I ain’t counting them. 😉
- Total: 4
The new models waiting for me definately push me below the zero thresshold, but as i’m steadily painting the pikemen (and a single gunner), this is only a matter of time!
