Hobby update – Fanatics

For an upcoming tournament, I wanted a new unit: a unit of fanatics. As it is, I got 25-ish GW fanatics a few years back as part of an army deal which I always wanted to paint one day. It appears that the 2021 summer is that day.

Here’s the finished unit. I really like both the looks of the individual minis and the unit as a whole. The bridge (while a PITA to glue models on) looks great as it gives a bit of elevation on the unit.

The unit was built as usual. First paint 15 minis, then build the base (here a WIP => ) and then super-glue the models in place. Finish with some more flock here and theren and I’m done!

The water was painted with a few layers of blue paint over a black undercoat intermixed with shiny varnish and azure ink.

In the meanwhile, I started a few new projects.

First of all, my goblin army is still in need of trolls. It’s been a while since I painted anything goblin related, but the new Mantic goblins look marvelous so I might pick up a box at the upcoming tournament! And since I don’t have my hands on these yet, better get those trolls finished!

For now they only have a blue undercoat, so they do need some work still!

Other than that, the zombies still need a base. While the models were finished last week, cutting these Mantic zombies from their circles is a time-consuming project. I do one or two between other projects, so here’s the base halfway finished!

Painting tally

Last week my painting tally was 24 positive

I did not finish any new models, but I gave one away. A friend of mine needed a hero for his Northern Alliance army and I had this nearly-finished one laying around.

In return he gave me a freshly printed queen of the swamp model from kingdoms of mercia miniatures. The model is lovely and this print is great! (I did get one before and it is not nearly as good)

Furthermore, I pilaged my brother’s human pile for a set of archers to add to my armies. I got 8, a combination of old GW Empire and Bretonnian models which all need paint stripped and repainted.

The current tally is:

• start +24
• gave one away -1
• got a new one +1
• pillaged 8 archers. +8

Current total: +16

As I might buy a few models at the upcoming tournament (since I want the gobz and I want to support the sponsor) I might get into the negative. Well, too bad, this means no new models for quite some time!
