Last week I posted that my 2nd horde of Basilean Palace guard for now remains on rounds – it’s gonna be a Warcry warband for the time being.
A good friend of mine (we sea each other too little, but when we see each other it;s always good) plays Warcry. I haven’t played anything GW related since they discontinued Warhammer fantasy, but for him I’ll gladly try it. Warcry also gets rather nice reviews, so I’m actually curious how this game plays out.
Furthermore, it does help that some models I already own (and only needed to finish painting) can be used as a 1,000 point warband.
In this blog post, I’ll describe how I built my Warband.
Getting the data
It’ll be a cold day in hell before I transfer another dime to Games Workshop. I still resent how they handled Warhammer fantasy back in the day and distinctly dislike the pricing of their games. This means I will not go out buy the warband cards, but rather spend time to create them myself. The Internet gives enough data to help me out.
As for IP purposes, i’ll also use my own painted models on the cards instead of the GW stormcasts.
Presenting the warband
For IP purposes, I’ll call these Golden Guards. Of course, the stats remain exactly the same as the GW windcrafted models they are converted from, but if GW can get around IP by calling elves Aelves, this will actually work.
A 1,000 points brings me:
- Golden Guard Champion with warhammer and shield (245 points)
- two Golden guards with warhammers and shields (185 each)
- a Golden Guard with a greatsword (185)
- Golden Guard Rocketeer (200 points)
Which gives me a grand total of five models.
Cards are below:

What if I actually like the game?
What if I actually like the game enough to play it more often? I might keep the Golden Guards as they are, as they are an easy-fix warband. this all depends whether I like the game and the warband enough. Generally, when playing skirimish games, I like playing larger (hordish) warbands, but with these Golden Guards, that’s not the case.
In such a case, I might build a Horde of the Necromancer warband (legions of Nagash), as I have plenty undead models laying around that can be transferred to rounds. There’s also plenty of other warbands that I can build, either by getting what I need from my bits box or buying a few models. We’ll see when we get there.
