This is a story of an escalation league where my humans face the Ratkin run by a friend of mine. Neither of us have much experience in Kings of War 3rd edition (though we played each other quite a few times in 2nd)
The rules gonna be simple: We start at a “kill’ scenario of 1,200 points and escalate from that. As we will need some adjustment time from 2nd to 3rd, the first battle is gonna be easy. Additionally, we don’t want any campaign rules to complicate the first games, but we may chose to do so after the first.
My guy and his story

This is Melkhior Isthmus, Major in the corps of engineers. As engineer officer; Melkhor is one of the guys who keeps the gears of war turning.
After the war of the abyss, ten years ago, most of Topaz’ mines were destroyed. After the inevitable cave-ins , only a few could be reopened, others were lost for good.
The nation’s craving for metal did not diminish, however. Guns needed to be cast and armours forged, so part of the engineers’ duty is finding new mines.
Recently, the scouts reported a possible deposit, somewhere in the wild, somewhat from the border of the infant sea. Once a dwarven mine, it has not been reopened after the wars. Immediately, Melkhior was sent out with a small force. If the mine could be reopened, a new colony could be founded, but until that time, it’s his responsibility to keep the mine safe.

Every general needs his game statistics. As Melkhior is an officer, he’s gotta have inspiring. His gun shoots, I think the Lightning bolt rule will do nicely. Finally, the ability to improve friendly units with his engineered concoctions should give them additional crushing strength.
All in, he’s best represented by a mage with lighting bolt, bane chant and the inspiring talisman. He’s 90 points.
