Hobby update – christmas holidays

The christmas holidays have been productive from a hobby perspective. There’s something end-of-yearish that encourages hobby time. Maybe it’s the long, dark, nights, but spending the night underneath a daylight painting lamp is oddly pleasant.

First of all, I rebased a horde of foot guard. I wanted to show the unit marching over a roman-type road which is slightly lower than the surrounding land. The road has banners alongside it, creating the immage that these banners go on for miles and miles. Based on historical sources, the road is 2 horses (sightly over 55mm in 28mm scale) wide, so a cart could travel it easily.

The unit models were mostly on Warhammer 20mm square bases and they desperately needed rebasing. Also, as some of these models were painted fifteen years ago (yes, it’s 4th edition GW Empire Greatswords in the back) there was quite some battle damage that needed repairs.

I firmly like the new multibase over the older single based miniatures. (here on the far right)

As this multibase has been finished, most of my oldhammer miniatures are converted to multibases, there’s just a 20-ish militia and a handfull of shooters and gunners left. These might at one time be multibased too, maybe.

As I did record the building of the multibase, I might do a how-to later on.

Other project: Light cavalry

The army of Eybost got some reinforcements (the first in more than a year) in the form of a troop of light cavalry. They are repaints from models I took from my recently sold-off 3rd human detachment.

I wanted some more cavalry in the Eybost army as I wanted the mirror-match battles I use the army for to be slightly more tactical instead of an infantry grind.

What’s in store now?

The to-paint box is quite empty at the moment. There’s just the single goblin wiz, which has been in there for weeks now (and I couldn’t be bothered to paint).

We’ll see what comes up when it happens. Still, the upcoming weeks will be busy with real-life stuff, so painting will probably be on the back burner for a few weeks now.
