Lord Darvled – Mantica’s own populist

Lord Darvled came to power after the victory over the Abyss in the Edge of the Abyss summer campaign in 2017. Here’s the official canon description from Clash ’18:

“throughout the war against the Abyss, the Kingdoms of Men never faltered” shouted Lord Darvled. The cheers from the gathered crowd almost drowned out his speech.

“We didn’t need the help of the Green Lady,” he said with a touch of scorn in his voice. “The Kingdoms of Men had a grand plan and we stuck to it. A plan to keep us safe from centuries of attack.”

Lord Darvled stoop on top of a huge wooden wall. It stretched across the horizon, blocking the successor Kingdoms from the rest of Mantica. It was wide enough for three ogres to walk side-by-side along its top and even a dragon would struggle to see over its towering frame. As a feat of engineering, it almost rivalled the dwarfs.

“Forget Basilea, forget the halls of dwarfs or the glades of Elves, Men are the true rulers of Mantica and we shall make our presence felt throughout the land.” The crowd erupted into applause.

Why it’s great to have a hero that you love to hate

The Kingdoms of Men army does not have much fluff writen by Mantica itself. That’s because it’s a catch-all army that can represent cultures from the bronze age to renaissance pike-and-shot armies. The army hails from the successor kingdoms which can represent all of these. The result is that the army can feel a bit bland, especially in the fluff department. Even the Kingdoms of men legendary hero (“the general”) doesn’t have the character compared to -say- Mhorgoth or the green lady.

That’s why it’s great to have a character who can evoke a lot of emotions even with very little exposure. And he’ll be creating a lot of tension and conflict, which is what wargames thrive on.

Great! More of him!

Note that this is no way official and you need your opponents’ consent to use lord Darvled as writen above.

As for stats; He is a human general with the demagogue ability (gives vicious to friendly non allied units within 3″) and +1 nerve for +30 points.
