Kings of War Armada starter fleets

So, here’s the premise: With the Kings of War armada ships in the Mantic Vault, starting the game is really, really easy. A group of friends is interested enough to try it out. This blog post is to help us getting started. (not me, of course, I started my fleet a while back)

In this blog post, I’ll list starter fleets for all the factions that currently are in the Mantic Vault. Accompanied are Mantic’s own ship pictures, save for the Basilean which are mine.

List building rules

As we just start out, the starter lists are gonna be easy. As suggested in the main rulebook, its gonna be 100 points, medium and small ships only. Later we can expand on these as much as we want.

Empire of Dust

The quasi-egyptian undead in Panithor have great models. Fluffwise they have skeleton crews captained by ancient undead beings and powered by ancient incantations. Their starter fleet would be:

  • Khopeshi main battleship x2 (40 points each)
  • Soul hunter support ship (20 points)

Dwarfs

The dwarves have steel ships which are powered by steam engines and dwarven engineering. Personally, I find the dwarven ships the least attractive of the line, but they can be really easy to paint. Dark undercoat, drybrush metalic and paint details, done. Their starter list would be:

  • Runeaxe main battleship x2 (40 points each)
  • Thunderer support ship. (20)

Basileans

My personal preference out of the starter set, the Basileans are one of Panithor’s core factions. Humans with angelic support featuring a highly ritualistic society with little patience for anything they perceive as evil. (which does include picking your nose in a temple. Just saying). Their starter list would be:

  • Elohi main battleship x2 (30 points each)
  • Gunbrig support ship (16 points)
  • Gur Panther support ship x2 (12 points each)

Twilight Kin

Mantic’s take on the evil elves. They consort with nightstalkers (Nightmarey-creatures from the void) which corrupts them -and their ships- into something half elven, half mutant. They are the new kids on the block and therefore have the fanciest design at this moment. This may change as soon as a new faction emerges or an old faction is re-vamped. Their list is:

  • Assasin main battleship x2 (32 points each)
  • Impaler support ship (16 points)
  • Banshee support ship (18 points)
  • 2 points left for upgrades.

Elves

The elves in Panithor have a multitude of tribes (Kindreds) and one of them is the seafaring elves. They are the ones who build the most ships, but others have them too. Their list would be:

  • Drakon’s fury main battleship x2 (32 points each)
  • Wave dancer support ship x2 (16 points each)
  • 4 points left for upgrades.

Trident Realms

From the depths of the seas, the Trident realms fight for Panithor. These guys also have a fleet, as it’s sort of their home turf. The Trident Realms have slightly unconventional ships as they are all living creatures, but as it’s fantasy, why not? Their list would be:

  • Gun Turtle main “battleship” x2 (34 points each)
  • Giant Giga tiny support x2 (16 points each)

This list is a bit different from the others as it does include a tiny “ship” instead of a small. Another option is to replace the gigas with knuckler chariots and accept that this list will be a 104 points.

Other races

Yes, there are other races. There’s a whole line of Kingdoms of Men which is intended to be used with “black seas” historical ships. Furthermore, there’s also abyssal dwarfs, varangur and so on, but these are not yet released from the vault. Finally, there’s the orcs. They are on the vault, but we dont have the STL’s, so they are not here either. If you want these, feel free to buy the STL’s or the original ships from Mantic.
