Kitbashing the Abbess & other hobby

Background (skip if you want straigth to the hobby)

Recently, I went to Clash of Kings UK. One of the armies that featured well there, was the Basilean Army from Jonathan Quayle. An earlier version of that list featured on Dash 28.

This type of lists can teach one thing: how to play Alpha strike. As alpha strike is one of my main playing styles, I’m willing to try out this successful build in order to learn what works and what does not. Usually, I don’t copy netlists, but for the sake of learning, let’s try this one out.

Hobby

So, the CoK version of the list features a number of units I don’t have yet. One of these units is the Abbess on Panther (with the gnome-glass shield.) This game me the perfect oportunity to kitbash one. This blog post shows my building process and the finally painted product. Here’s the model completed.

And here’s the list of components:

Building the Abbess started with glueing chest and legs together and pinning the metal lance to the plastic body. (otherwise it will break off every 2nd battle).

As you can see, the result wasn’t pretty, so I cut off a 2nd pauldron from a plastic empire lance and added this one. This is much better!

Adding the 2nd pauldron and head completed the model. Here is the model on my cavalry-painting mount before priming and painting. A shield was also selected (I chose another one 5 minutes later).

The completed model

I’m pretty happy with the results. One more model to go!

Other hobby projects

I finished up 11 infantry for my chosen men project. They will return on this blog when more of them have been completed.

Furthermore, I replenished my diminished mawpups. (I gave several away at Clash of Kings).

Painting tally:

A reoccuring part of this blog is the where I keep track of my minis waiting for paint, counting my number of newly accrued miniatures compared to those actually finished!

  • start 2
  • painted 17
    • 11 Napoleonic infantry
    • 4 mawpups
    • Abbess and sawtooth. (I count them as two, since they entered my collection as two severate units.
  • New models -18. I got the following new units:
    • Phoenix. I got this beautiful 3d print for my copycat army
    • 3 Elohi.
    • 14 napoleonic light dragoons. why I did buy these is still a mystery, but alas.
  • Total = 1

I’m one (a single) model in the plus. That said, I’ll be continuing my current projects, the phoenix, Elohi, Napoleonics and ogres.
