Monster March 21 part 1

I recently started my new Monster March project: A goblin blaster. This is week 1, so I’ll post my build-process.

This is how they arive. (the largest part, there are several). Due to size issues, I had to size down the model to about 70%. This new model does fit perfectly on the base, but it has a number of new issues.

First of all, the original crew is much too small now. They are already much smaller than other “28mm” models, scaling them down makes them very fragile and too small to use. So I scrapped the crew and built a number of Mantic Goblins (still had some from Clash of Kings) to function as crew.

Cutting the supports proved to be…. time consuming. Here’s all the parts for a single blaster, even without the crew. The printed parts needed to be cut free, cleaned from remaining supports, washed with alcohol and then finally cleaned with water again.

Building the things was even more time so since I modified my goals a bit. As I eventually need three of the monsters, I decided to build them in stages. First I built a single one which looks like this:

After priming and starting to paint this model, I found out that:

a) priming white and painting the whole model a dark brown colour is a bit impractical. The model after its first layer looks like this:

the picture above also shows a single crewmember in its early stages of painting.

At this time, I built the 2nd and 3rd model. They were henceforth undercoated black. As the original model only has a single barrel (steam engine expansion vat), I supplemented my models with additional barrels. Some came from my brother, other from historical models I didn’t know I had and finally two from my dungeon saga set.

The blasters are now ready to be painted! Onwards!

This is as far as I got this week. Next week, I hope to have progressed significantly with at least one model.
