Each year, Swordsmaster hosts a painting challenge to paint up a single large monster in a month. This challenge is called “Monster March”. Since 2019 (!) I’ve participated in this challenge, painting a vampire lord on dragon, phoenix, goreblight and knight horde respectively. You can find all about it here.
This year, I beat Swordmaster’s anouncement and start the challence early! The fact that I’m early is an achievement on its own for me, as I usually only start the challence after the first days of the month have passed already, scrambling for a good model to paint and rushing to finish it! Of course, there’s always the chance that Swordie can’t host the challenge this year due to life interferring. If so, I’ll post my progress here and on the Kings of War forum.
My entry this year
My entry this year will be modest, point wise. The first year’s dragon was worth 330 points. The phoenix 145, the goreblight 175 and the horde of knights (with the obligatory boots of striding) a whopping 350. My entry this year will be a goblin blaster. It’s technically a monster, so it counts but @65 points, it’s cheap and I eventually need 3 of them. This model will be a test run!
What’s a goblin blaster?
the Mantic model looks like a cart full of gunpowder casks, because that’s what it is. A lowish-nerve monster which explodes on impact in melee. The damage potential is huge (up to 18 wounds before flanking modifiers) but it can -and will occasionally- dud. @65 points, it’s usually ignored by my opponents OR it gets far more attention than it warrants.
The model
Though I’m okay-ish with the Mantic model, I chose a different model to build and paint. I bought the 3d print for this beauty and asked my regular 3d print guy to print it.

I just received the first print and had to ask him to redo it. The base as shown above is advertised as 50×100 mm, but I couldn’t get mine to fit on that base. So either Titanforgeminis’ mm are a bit larger than mine, or the base above is 10% larger than advertised.
Being the gamer that I am, my base sizes are sacred. (yes, i know oversized bases are allowed in KoW, but I don’t want that). So, I asked my mate to redo the print scaled down to 80% which should arrive any day now. The model and the print is gorgeous, however!
I’ll keep you informed when the print arrives and how it looks!
