In the fall of 2020 I posted 2 articles about the Brothermark army list. I concluded with the promise to write up a few armies using this list.
Until this time, I haven’t done this yet. This is mainly because a) my games are limited and b) most of my armies use the Basilean list instead. Frankly, the Brothermark army-as-is doesn’t interest me enough to actually try.
This week, @bloodaxe posted the below message on the King of War forum:

The replies to this post were twofold, mainly:
a) the Order of the Green lady is a solid army list and the people who play it seem to like it.
b) The Brothermark is most often described as “a poor man’s Basilea”
So as a reaction to this thread and my earlier posts I decided to list a number of changes that the army list needs (IMHO) to be valid and interesting. I’ll be posting this both on this blog and on the forum.
limits & guidelines
Before rewriting the army list, I set myself a few limits.
a) the amount of changes must be as few as possible and no radical changes.
b) No new rules
c) no returning to the 2nd edition Brotherhood army. That phase’s been.
Within these limits, the challenge is to make Brothermark
a) a more disctinct army from the Basilean parent list
b) having a separate -valid- playstyle.
ideas
The army of the Brothermark should combine cheap infantry and cavalry supported by a few powerful heroes and knight regiment. It would be great if there’s some synergy between these.
The distinct Basilean units (Panthers & Elohi but also palace guard and phoenix) should be axed. The list would need some new hammer-type units to replace these.
The brotherhood units that went over to the Green lady should not all be copied to keep the split clear.
- Martyrs
- Order of the Forsaken
- Order of Redemption
- Order of the Brotherhood
Of these, the Order of the Forsaken would benefit the Brothermark most, while keeping the water-themed Redemption an martyr units where they belong -in the Green lady list.
To be continued next week
Next week I’ll work out these ideas into a fully fledged set of army list changes.
